Despite the title being a steal from the Alison Krauss album, this is actually a blog about books and other new favorite things.

Catching up with my reading

Given the lack of book-related posts, it would seem that I have given up reading. Au contraire! I've been reading so many great books that I haven't taken time to post.

The Wee Free Men and Hat Full of Sky

both by Terry Pratchet
Both these books follow the adventures of a young witch, Tiffany Aching, as she discovers how to be a witch, what magic really is, and learns how to control her first sight and second thoughts. I've read nearly everything Terry Pratchet has written, and he has demonstrated in these two books his ability to write a book from a young girl's point of view that will appeal to any reader that likes a good story.

Peace Like a River

Leif Enger
A father, son, and daughter on the road to find the oldest son who escaped from jail while on trial for murder. Their lives are so complicated and their decisions are so critical. Reuben's struggle to be loyal to his brother and his family, his sister Swede's long epic western poem, and their found friendships make for an deep and interesting read.

Troll

Johanna Sinislalo
Dull.

Jammin'

I'd love to say that this lovely plum jam is from the first batch of jam that I have ever made, but instead it is from the first batch I have ever WATCHED get made. The kids and my parents picked the fruit and put the fruit through the grinder. My mom did all of the stirring. I did get to contribute... I measured the sugar! It sounds like I am grousing - I am not. We had a great time and the jam is delicious.

Life is so good when you are seven and there is a camera to be found.
